Samlind of Indiana Inc

"Compassion Is Our Passion!"

About Us

It is Samlind’s commitment to create an environment that is safe for all employees and individuals. Samlind works hard to create this environment for employees that is conducive to them feeling safe to express their concerns, ideas, frustrations, and errors to the leaders of Samlind. Our Culture of Safety policy ultimately strives to create safe and excellent quality care for Samlind’s clientele. Samlind encourages staff to self-report errors. This can only be achieved when employees feel safe to self-report without automatic adverse consequences. Samlind has established a Self-Report Incentive Approach. This approach includes, a “Shout Out Bulletin Board” at the office where managers and administrators can complement a staff for doing something noteworthy. For example, doing an awesome job on cleaning, planning an exciting event for a client, self- reporting a near-miss occurrence, self-reporting a medication error in a timely manner, self-reporting accidental property damage, etc.

Another way to promote open and honest communication is to approach staff errors by having administrators consider those incidents as teachable moments. These teachable moments could mean planning an extra training, or on the spot training on why and how the situation should have been managed in a different
manner. Safety Culture not only thrives in an environment where staff feel safe to self- report. It also comes with staff being indoctrinated and agreeing with our company’s core values. Samlind’s core values are Joy, Unity, Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence. We use JUICE as our acronym. Each individual value is unique but go hand in hand. All staff are trained on Samlind’s core values and what they mean in practical terms.

Our Story

The Samlind Story
In the year 1984, Mr. Sam Quaye met a woman and they fell in love. He was attending
graduate school and would come home on weekends to spend time with Linda. Like clockwork,
Sam would pick up his newfound beloved Linda from her place of employment. Each Friday,
he would wait outside until Linda had completed her shift. He never went inside to wait. Until
one day, Linda came out and told Sam that the people with whom she worked wanted to meet
him. At first, he felt quite uncomfortable. You see, Linda worked with a population that Sam
simply was not accustomed to seeing. Linda worked with people who did not have the ability to
care for themselves without physical assistance. Some of them could not talk. Some of them
could not walk. And those who could speak, did so without clarity. They could not cook for
themselves or take care of any personal business. None of these people could ever complete
the “normal” educational process. Linda worked at a group home for people who were
physically and intellectually disabled. Nonetheless, Sam decided to go inside and meet Linda’s
friends.
After the first visit, Sam decided that he would go inside each time to say hello to the people.
He did that every Friday and began to appreciate the people who lived in the group home. He
enjoyed it so much that he decided to apply for a job to work at a group home. Linda noticed
that Sam’s major purpose for coming home every weekend seemed to be changing. But Linda
understood the enjoyment that Sam felt while working with these individuals.
Sam and Linda married. They loved each other and their work with people with disabilities so
much, they decided to open up their own agency. Not only did they join each other in marriage,
they joined their names which became the name of their agency. The agency, Samlind of
Michigan began in 1990. Throughout the years, they were encouraged to open up an agency in
Indiana. This idea came to fruition in 2005 when Samlind of Indiana Inc. was established.
Today, Samlind continues to assist people in Michigan and in Indiana.
Linda and Sam are both very passionate about what they do. Sam often refers to the epiphany
he experienced some years back that he himself, within a second of an accident or some
physical trauma can be in the position where he may need complete physical assistance.
When it comes to this population, Sam has maintained the belief that it is always best to treat
people as if it were you in the same situation. One day, it just might be you.
Samlind of Indiana Inc. has served people in Laporte, South Bend, Mishawaka, Wakarusa, Fort
Wayne, Plymouth, Elkhart, and Granger, and Indianapolis. In 2011, Samlind acquired
Accreditation from the Joint Commission for Behavioral Health and maintains certification from
the Joint Commission.
At Samlind, we believe that compassion is an essential character trait if you choose to work with
this population. And as our Samlind motto goes, “Compassion is our Passion”.
